Chapters: Suburban Express, Frasca International, Jimmy John’s, Leadershape, Credit Union 1, Bell Sports Inc., Human Kinetics, Great Planes Model Manufacturing, Horizon Hobby, Tower Hobbies. Excerpt: Suburban Express is a bus company which serves five midwest universities; University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Illinois State University, Eastern Illinois University, Purdue, and the University of Iowa. Weekend services transport students from all five campuses directly to several suburban Chicago locations.. The Illini Shuttle runs every day from Champaign to the Chicago Airports of O’Hare and Midway and the suburbs. Students of the University of Illinois (UIUC) have had a variety of transportation options over the life of the university. In the early 1980s, most students wishing to travel to the Chicago area used Amtrak (trains), Greyhound Lines (buses) and private automobiles. In 1983, a student of the University of Illinois became dissatisfied with the Amtrak’s high fares and Greyhound’s unreliable service, and started Suburban Express. Suburban Express used a novel business model – that of a “virtual” bus company – in that it did not own any buses or facilities. Rather, it contracted buses from established carriers, sold tickets through a travel agent, and used public streets and suburban malls as its bus stops. The first charter of six buses carried about 300 students to the Chicago suburbs for the Thanksgiving break in 1983 undercutting Greyhound’s prices by $4 to $8. The concept was partially encouraged by a Greyhound bus driver’s strike around the same period. Charter service continued in the spring of 1984, but encountered a few problems. UIUC refused to allow Suburban Express ticket sales at the university travel center because the sch… More: |

Eddie Money concert at Kabuki Theatre on 10 Apr 79 $9.98 Eddie Money had already enjoyed a few years as a bona fide rock star and FM staple when this recording was made during his 1979 Life For The Taking tour. Money had emerged, with the help of manager and promoter Bill Graham in 1977, with a promising debut LP that included the hits, “Baby Hold On To Me,” and the infectious, “Two Tickets To Paradise.” For this show, Money was playing to his hometown crowd, as he settled in the Bay Area in the mid-1970s after a fruitless attempt to become a star in his native-born city, New York. Money sings many of the early hits with the same enthusiasm and conviction he had on the earliest tours of his career. Perhaps the reason for this (outside of a very supportive audience), is because Money had a great band assembled for this tour. Credit must go to guitarist Jimmy Lyons who, like Keith Richards is to Mick Jagger, provides a wide net of support and collaboration. From listening to this recording, and others in the studio, it’s obvious that Lyons was a key element to the success of Eddie Money in those days. In addition to the aforementioned hits from his first album, the show also includes several radio staples, including “Rock & Roll The Place” and “Wanna Be A Rock ‘N’ Roll Star.” Other highlights include “Life For The Taking’” and “Gamblin’ Man.” Born as Edward Mahoney and raised in New York City into a family of Irish-American policemen, Money had planned to follow his father’s footsteps and enrolled in the Police Academy training program. Somewhere along the way, however, his desire to make music for a living overwhelmed him, and he has been in front of the mic ever since. |

Jimmy Boyd $45.99 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Jimmy Boyd (January 9, 1939 – March 7, 2009) was an American singer, musician, and actor. He was best known for his recording of the novelty song I saw mama kissing Santa Claus. James Boyd was born near McComb, Mississippi to Leslie and Winnie Boyd. His father was a farmer. Leslie picked cotton to help support his own family of twenty-one brothers and sisters. When Jimmy Boyd was 2 years old, his father put his wife and their two sons on a train to Riverside, California. Leslie, who had only enough money to buy tickets for them, hitchhiked on freight trains to join them. |

Jimmy Buffett 1980s Ticket from Cal Expo Amphitheater on 11 Aug 88: Ticket One $10 By the 1980s, multiple-night concerts at smaller, single venues were giving way to giant arena shows, and event tickets began to reflect the change from up-close-and-personal to binoculars-advised. Concert tickets from the beginning of this period still sported background colors, band icons or small, familiar symbols on their faces and were computer generated, standard in size and included the all-important seat and row number data. By the end of the decade, much of the special imagery had disappeared. Although these tickets may be less flashy, they are mementos of some of the greatest shows in rock, punk rock and heavy metal history. 1980s Ticket |

Jimmy Cliff 1980s Ticket from Berkeley Community Theatre on 13 Nov 87: Ticket One $19 By the 1980s, multiple-night concerts at smaller, single venues were giving way to giant arena shows, and event tickets began to reflect the change from up-close-and-personal to binoculars-advised.

Led Zeppelin: Shadows Taller Than Our Souls $50 This commemorative edition includes: 90 full-color and black-and-white images, including some never-before-published and rare photos. 20 interactive and rare memorabilia, including tickets, posters, stickers, and more! An audio CD containing a historically significant interview with Jimmy Page. A keepsake slipcase, making Led Zeppelin a fitting tribute to the legendary sound of the band. In 1968, the electrifying potion of musical greats Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham exploded onto the rock scene as Led Zeppelin. Their palpable, walloping beats in combination with their extraordinarily lyrical atmospherics quickly transcended the boundaries of traditional music to earn them the moniker “Gods of Rock.” In Led Zeppelin: Shadow Taller Than Our Souls, Charles R. Cross looks past the over-told saga of Zeppelin’s offstage antics to reexamine the reasons why the band garnered millions of screaming fans in the first place—the exquisite depth of their music. In an unprecedented format filled with interactive, historic memorabilia, this charged piece of rock criticism surveys Zeppelin’s entire career, explores their landmark contributions, album by album, and displays stunning photographs and significant ephemera. |

The Old English Peep Show $4.27 Americans may have Colonial Williamsburg, but for the Brits, there’’s ?Old England, ? an elaborate theme park that pays homage to a similarly imaginary glorious past. At Old England, the woods are lush with game-birds and round every corner is a pink-cheeked, mob-capped maid bobbing a curtsey. It’’s no wonder the tourists are happy to buy tickets. Lately, though, there’’s been a fly in the ointment. The two doddering old war-heroes who own the estate have slipped from charmingly eccentric to disturbingly nuts, and one of the ?servants? has committed suicide. What Inspector Jimmy Pibble finds beneath the daydream is not exactly a green and pleasant land |

Yardbirds 1960s Ticket from Fillmore Auditorium on 23 May 68: Complete Set $79 Deep into the psychedelic age, poster artist Lee Conklin took the notion of visual hallucination to a whole new level with his twisted, writhing images of figures, faces, and hands morphing into??? what is that thing, anyway? Commissioned specially by Bill Graham to create poster art for the Fillmore shows, Conklin’s style is one of the most distinctive to emerge from the ’60s art scene. This concert poster for the Yardbirds is especially notable, as it promotes one of the last appearances by the famed group before Jimmy Page led them into the New Yardbirds, who then, of course, became Led Zeppelin. |
